Carb and cream cheese lovers can look forward to deals celebrating National Bagel Day on Jan. 15.

Bagels were developed by Jewish bakers in Poland several hundred years ago. Theories as to their creation vary, but some historians claim that bagels, which are boiled before being baked, were invented to circumvent antiemetic laws that prevented Jewish bakers from making traditional bread for (or selling it to) non-Jewish patrons, according to accounts referenced by the Institute of Culinary Education.
