Strait of Hormuz to Reopen? Inside the US-Iran 10-Point Peace Plan

1. The Midnight De-escalation

Late last night (Tuesday, April 7), President Trump used Truth Social to announce a 14-day truce. This came less than two hours before his 8 PM ET deadline, where he had previously threatened to "decimate every bridge and power plant" in Iran if they didn't reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

2. Pakistan’s Surprising Role

The ceasefire wasn't brokered by the UN, but by Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and General Asim Munir (whom Trump reportedly called his "favorite Field Marshal") led the negotiations. Pakistan is the "middleman" because it shares a border with Iran but has improving ties with the US.

3. The "10-Point Peace Proposal"

Iran has submitted a 10-point plan to the White House. Key conditions include:

  • Safe Passage: Iran agrees to a "complete and immediate" opening of the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks.

  • Sanctions & Uranium: Iran is demanding the lifting of sanctions and recognition of its uranium enrichment program.

  • The "Trump Twist": Trump posted that the nuclear issue would be solved "perfectly" and hinted at "big money" being made in Iran’s reconstruction.

4. Regional Reactions

  • Israel: Prime Minister Netanyahu supports the US-Iran ceasefire but clarified that the fighting in Lebanon (against Hezbollah) is NOT part of the deal.

  • The Economy: Oil prices plummeted by 13% overnight, and the S&P 500 is expected to open at record highs as the fear of a global energy crisis fades.
